Inspired by his mother and elementary teachers, Andrew Snorton has been writing since a child. quotes and notes: something’s on the horizon, is his latest book. He shares about his writing journey as well as his lessons learned in publishing.
1. Where you a writer as a child?
I definitely did a good amount of creative writing as a child, especially in elementary school. I have to thank teachers including (but not limited to) Miss Mastroianni, Ms. Sugarman, and Ms. Janice McAllister for helping instill a love for writing and understanding the essential mechanics. Likewise, my mother (a retired educator) plays an integral role in helping me develop an early skill set and interest when it comes to writing.
2. What inspired you to publish your first book?
My first book is actually supposed to be my second book.
In 2016, after speaking with colleagues (Tyressa Ty and Darius Gourdine) about “stretching” my writing (as I used to write for a magazine), I started working on a collection of essays inspired by the political landscape (some would call it something vastly different, so I’ll stick with landscape) at the time. However, when my laptop crashed, I’m not able to recover the manuscript, so after about 15 or so tense moments, it dawned on me that perhaps I needed to go in a different direction.
