(Brian is on the phone, and Karen is sitting next to him. He speaks sadly) Okay. Yes, thanks for calling, love you. (Hangs up phone).

KAREN

Who was that? What happened?

BRIAN

It was grandma. (Pause) He died (Karen gets up and Brain holds her. She weeps loudly).

AARON

(Enters) What’s wrong? Is Karen pregnant? (Pause) Are mom and Dad getting a divorce? (Pause) Did someone die? (Brian looks at Aaron) Oh no! Who died?

BRIAN

Grandma called. She’s at the hospital. (Pause) Grandpa died in his sleep.

AARON

WHAT?! You can’t be serious. Maybe they made a mistake. Hospitals do that you know.

BRIAN

No. He died.

AARON

(Sits down) I don’t believe this. This can’t be.
