My Dead Father Part One
My Dead Father Part One
Jonathan has a note in his hand. He is reading it with unease and a peculiarity vibe. He hands the note to Yvette.
“Did you show your mom?”
“No. Didn’t you read it. It says not to do that.”
“How will he know?”
“I don’t know. Johnny, I’m scared.”
“What do you want me to do? This guy could probably kill me.”
“What do I do?”
“I don’t know. I think you should show your mom or maybe Ms. Igloo. She can probably help you.”
“He said not to show anyone.”
“No, it says don’t show your mom or the police. And not to mention, you showed it to me.”
“You’re the only one I trust.”
“Really? Why?”
“I don’t know.”
“Where did the letter come from, anyway?”
“I check the mail every day when I come home from school. It was in the mailbox. The thing is there was no postage stamp on it.”
“Oh wow. I didn’t know the postman delivers mail without postage on it.”
“Johnny, they don’t. The guy put it in my mailbox, which means he knows where I live.”
“I think you should show Ms. Igloo. The fact that your mom doesn’t come home until about 6, he could easily kidnap you.”
“Maybe I could stay with you on the weeks days until my mom comes home.”
“I’d have to ask my mom. She’s weird about those things. She’ll get suspicious and want to know why a girl is spending so much time with me. She’ll think we’re having sex or something.”
“No, she won’t. I won’t be in your room. We can stay in the den or living room the whole time. And then you could walk me home.”
“I don’t know about that. What if he follows you and finds out where I live? I don’t want him knowing where I live. He might kidnap me too.”
“I’m so confused and scared. Why does this have to happen to me?”
“I really think you should show Ms. Igloo the letter.”
The school bell rings,
“Oh, sorry, Yvette. I have to go. I don’t want to be late.”
Jonathan rushes off to class. Yvette stands frightened looking at the letter. A teacher approaches her.
“Miss, I think you better get to class.”
Yvette wakes up from her frightened state and rushes to class. Yvette is mentally no where near her next class. The teacher calls on her and she does not answer. Yvette only notices the teacher after he approaches her desk and calls her name. She frightened, jumps when she notices him standing by her desk. The rest of the class laughs at the reaction. Mr. Goode responds,
“Yvette, what is wrong?”
She pauses for a moment and then responds,
“What do you mean?”
“I’ve been calling your name and you are not responding. Are you day dreaming? Are you in Oz?”
The class laughs at the question.
“No, I’m sorry. I’m just…it’s nothing. I am sorry. What did you need, Mr. Goode?”
“Never mind. See me after class.”
Class ends and Yvette is standing at Mr. Goode’s desk.
“Yvette, you do not look good. If something is bothering you, you know you can talk to anyone of the faculties in this school, correct?”
“Of course.”
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing.”
“Is something going wrong at home?”
“No. I’m good.”
“Do not be afraid to talk to me, or the counselor, okay?”
“Yes, Mr. Goode. Thank you.”
“You may be excused.”
“Thank you.”
Yvette excuses herself from the room and walks to her locker. She opens the locker and there is a note that is on the bottom of the locker. As Yvette switches books, she notices the note and with fear picks it up. She opens the note,
“Yvette, meet me outside by the alum walk of fame.”
With fear and curiosity, she contemplates if she should go to the walk of fame. Between fear and curiosity, curiosity wins and she decides to journey to see who left her the note. Is it the same man (or woman) who left her the note in her mailbox or is it a student with a crush? Of course, she is hoping it is a note from Jonathan, her friend, whom, she likes more than a friend. She decides to go and see who left her this note. She slowly and cautiously walks to the alum walk of fame and when she approaches, she sees a man standing waiting for her. Looking at the man paralyzes her and she cannot walk. The man approaches her. In her mind she is running away and screaming. In reality she is like a stone and cannot move. He lifts her and carries her away.
In American History Class, Mrs. Opal teaches about Ebenezer Kinnersley, the first inventor of the light bulb. As she teaches his history, there is silent conversation amongst the class. Jessica speaks to Jonathan,
“Hey, Johnnie.”
“Yeah.”
“Where’s Yvette?”
He looks at her seat. He then looks puzzled
“I don’t know.”
“I’m surprised you didn’t notice she was missing. Wasn’t she in Gym today? I know I saw her in Music class.”
“Yes, she was.”
“So, where is your girlfriend?”
“We are not dating. We’re just friends.”
“Of course, you are.”
“Would you stop it.”
Mrs. Opal interrupts,
“Jonathan and Jessica, do you have something, you’d like to share with the rest of the class?”
Jonathan answers,
“No, Mrs. Opal. Sorry.”
“Please, stop the chatter.”
Jonathan raises his hand,
“Uh, Mrs. Opal, may I speak to you privately?”
“Um, sure. Come outside with me.”
“Class, we will be back. Behave yourselves.”
Mrs. Opal directs Jonathan outside the class.
“What is it, Jonathan?”
“Um, I probably shouldn’t tell you this…Yvette was in Gym class earlier, and Jess, said she saw her in Music Class.”
“You wanted to tell me Yvette Is cutting class?”
“Not exactly. She showed me this mysterious letter she received yesterday in the mail. It had no stamp on it. She thinks whoever wrote it place it in her mailbox. Whoever wrote it said that he or she would be coming to take her away soon and not to tell her mom. She’s scared and I’m scared she’s not in class. What if they took her away?”
“Maybe she is running really late. If she doesn’t show up to class, I will tell the principal.”
“You’re not going to call the cops, are you? She was told not to tell her mom or the police.”
“If this is a serious matter, we have to notify the police. It doesn’t matter what the letter says. Abduction is illegal, if someone took her, we have to call the police. Now let’s go back in class. And chill with the talking.”
Yvette, of course did not show up to class. Mrs. Opal notified the principal. After Yvette did not show up for her class after History the police and her mom were contacted. Her mom, Eva, showed up frantic. The police calmed her and asked to look at the footage. Thankfully there are cameras all over the inside and outside the school. Eva sits frantically waiting to see the footage. The police wanted to know if she knew the man before they release the footage to the news. As she watches the footage her mouth opens widely in shock. The police can tell she knows who the individual is. The officer asks,
“Ms. Eva, do you know who that individual is?”
“What the hell is going on!”
“What do you mean? Do you know him?”
“That’s her father!”
“Oh, okay. Are you having a custody battle?”
“No. he’s supposed to be dead.”
The officer with much confusion asks,
“What do you mean?”
“He died three years ago serving this country. We buried him. I had to identify his body.”
“Um…seriously?”
“What the hell is this? Is this a sick joke? Am I dreaming? I feel sick.”
Eva slowly passes out while in the chair. The officers help her out of the chair and then one of them calls for an ambulance on his transceiver.
