Patience

Texting, faxing, tweeting,
Microwaving; fast food,
Drive-thru, delivery,
Fast speed, high speed
Fast train, fast plane
Quick this, quick that
Technology has made everything
Quick, fast, easy, and a hurry
And to this my patience has been weakened.
So I tell my dreams, my goals, and my aspirations
To hurry up, be here sooner
Why do you take so long?
And they reply, we are like plants,
Like trees, like flowers,
Like vegetables and fruit you eat.
Like the seeds that are planted
Technology cannot rush us.
The time it takes for us to grow is the same as it were
One thousand years ago
So, don’t rush us use your patience.
So I decided to strengthen my patience
No more text, fax, tweets.
I get a pen and paper and write my letters
And send them with envelope and postage stamp
I cook with slow cookers and ovens
I park far and walk; I pick up my orders
I go for speed that’s low
And speed that is slow
I take the longer way
And I make things slow, sluggish
Tedious and difficult
As to exercise and strengthen my patience
