Many people are searching for the path to happiness. During his journey James Sheridan discovered there was no cookie-cutter path. Born and raised in London, England, James Sheridan is author of the “You Code,” which became a #1 Amazon Best-Seller during pre-sale. James knew we was a writer before he knew Algebra. His first book, “The Pandora Prescription,” was published in 2007. Author James Sheridan invested some of his time with me during an interview.

1. When did you discover you needed to be an author?

First, when I was very young in first grade and won an award for creative writing. Then, when I retired from business and was trying to figure out what to do with myself, although the true spirit within us is always there, trying to make itself known and what it’s trying to tell you is your purpose in life. That’s what my new book is about.

2. What inspired you to publish your first book?

A blatant cover-up for a natural cure for cancer that centered on a famous hospital in the 1970s. I wrote “The Pandora Prescription,” as a fiction book in order to slip past peoples’ barriers against natural cures, but the facts behind the fiction are very real.

3. Did you have any fears of publishing before you started?

I suppose like all authors, of rejection, and not being allowed into the club.

4. What were three things your learned about the publishing process?

Stand your ground with editors. They mean well, and they have a purpose, but the wrong one will try to take over and make it their own. Listen, consider what they’re saying, and then listen to your gut; the origin of your inspiration. It’s your book. I think far too many books are boring because they’re over-produced as a result of over-zealous editors.

5. What was the most surprising thing your learned in the process?

Just how many cooks there are in the kitchen, and I mean that in a good way. It’s a team effort to bring your idea to life, so many things to take care of.

6. Have you done any unique marketing that other authors can borrow?

I could never stand social media but I bit the bullet and got involved for the purpose of using Facebook ads. Used wisely, Facebook is a powerful marketing tool the likes of which I’ve never seen before. Search for target audiences for your book, and test, test, test.

7. What is the title of your latest book?

“The You Code”- Your Ancient Life Map Hidden in Your Ancient Genes.

8. What is a brief summary/synopsis of the book?

In what became a #1 Amazon bestseller before it was even officially released, The You Code contains a total “life map” for the reader, and it improves all areas of life: relationships, health, money, but most of all it definitively answers the most important question anyone can ask themselves: who am I and why am I here?

9. What inspired/encouraged you to research the information gained in your latest book?

Being on the front lines of the self-improvement industry market for the last 20 years and slowly waking up the fact that success is subjective; the path to happiness is not a cookie-cutter idea.

10. What did you learn (new) about yourself during the writing and publishing of this book?

I find the writing of any book a true journey within. If you set things up right, at some point the “hidden hand” takes over, and you never know where it will take you. Personally, I woke up to being far more spiritual than I thought I was.

11. You received a good review from Jack Canfield. What advice would you give to another author on getting someone to read and review their books?

A lot of authors get great publicity from having their name on book jackets, so don’t be too put off asking. Look for a way to align your goals/passions with theirs, and keep trying.

12. Which tip (1) from your book can you share with readers of this interview that can help them now?

To unashamedly trust in who you are, that there are millions more people just like you across the planet, and to therefore believe that if what you’re saying resonates with your soul, so will it with others. Don’t let anything, including the prevailing social narrative, corrupt what you have to say. If you don’t know what to say (because you don’t know who you truly are) read my book.

13. Where can your future fans follow you on social media?

@FlySheridan on Twitter

14. Do you have a website?

15. With the knowledge you have now as a published writer, what advice would you give your 18-year-old self?

I wrote The You Code to give to my 20-year-old son, so I would give myself that book. From that book I would discover my true self and purpose, thereby not learning the hard way what I was put here to do.

16. What advice would you give a novice writer looking to publish their first book?

Don’t write a single word until you come up with a title (or concept) that resonates with your soul, that is matched with a large target audience on Facebook (you’ll thank me for that when it comes to selling the thing both on Facebook AND to agents/publishers), and that makes people go, “Oooooh…”

17. If you could co-author a book with any author, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

The psychoanalyst, Carl Jung, and the philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche. These two were the geniuses who inspired my new book, and I’d like to write the sequel with them (whilst bringing Friedrich up to speed on women’s rights…)

If you need to find happiness, check out James Sheridan’s best-seller, “The You Code.” I hope this book will help you find happiness and of course, you. Thank you to Author James Sheridan once again for sharing his time with me and my readers/followers.
